We're having waffles!

We are having a "Library Social" pancake and waffle lunch this Wednesday from 11am-2pm at the IS Library. They told us all about it, and now we're telling you! You should tell your friends, too!

I heard a rumor we're also having a SCALA meeting this week... Come by on Monday, July 27 at 5:15pm in IS502 for our final summer SCALA meeting!

It's the last meeting ever of the Spring 2009 General Membership and have we ever got a meeting for you! Networking at The Library, a Book Kart Drill Team special performance announcement, SCALA Tshirts, and even (dun dun dun) Pirates!

Post-Break Awesomeness -- And You Can Help!

We're celebrating St. Patrick's Day the week after St. Patrick's Day with a baked goods and crafts sale, proceeds to benefit the Book Kart Drill Team. If you've got a hankerin' for some tasty treats or some fabulous crafts, come check us out! (Or, if you like to bake or make crafts and would like to contribute to what we're selling, please do, and we will love you forever and think you are fantastic!)

We'll be in the lobby all day. Come find us. :)

And then, at 5pm, we'll be having our March SCALA meeting, with library-themed beverages (school policy being what it is, the beverages will, of course, be alcohol-free ... but tasty!). Come find out what we've been up to and what's coming up!

Next General Meeting 3/17

Hey there SCALA-ites, it's your webmaster here! On Pittsburgh's (middle?) East Side, we often like to celebrate the changing of the seasons with a cocktail. And because librarians are so fabulous, the Denver Hyatt created a few specialty cocktails with a library theme for this year's ALA Midwinter Meeting.

Who are we to ignore the hot new thing in librarianship? In the spirit of keeping up with the trends, we'll be serving (virgin) editions of these special drinks at our next general meeting on Tuesday, March 17th at 5pm.

Be there in your St. Patrick's Day finest, because you never know what will happen at a SCALA meeting!

SCALA will be holding its most excellently enjoyable and productive November meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 4th at 5:15pm in 1A04 (the first floor lounge).

PS- There won't be a Thanksgiving dinner served (and so ends the officers' tofurkey vs. regular turkey debate, sadly) at the meeting, but there may just be a cornucopia of such beautific majesty as to make Martha Stewart weep in her Burberry wellies, lol!

New Officers and Next Meeting

Congratulations to your newly elected Fall 2008 SCALA officers! Serving Pitt MLIS students this semester are Jacqui Taylor (President), Rachel Carver (Vice President), Amy Lee Heinlen (Secretary), Coral Hess (Treasurer), Blake Robinson (Faculty/FastTrak Liaison), and Jean Sant (Webmaster).

SCALA will be holding its next meeting in October, probably on the week of the 6th. So let's hear it oh active SCALA members ours--what times and dates work best for you? We'll strive to accommodate as many people as possible. We luvs yinz! Leave your mark in the comments section of this post to help us find a time!

More Meeting Details

We have found the land of milk and honey! It is room 1A04, and we'll be using it for the meeting on Monday. The room is commonly known as the first floor lounge and is directly across from the elevators.

We will be undergoing elections--anybody who's interested in any position may nominate themselves or have another person nominate them--you can find descriptions of the different officer positions on the SCALA homepage (a link to which you will find in the sidebar on this blog, sweetness).

At the meeting, we will also be voting on the Constitution. At the beginning of the summer, the current SCALA officers completed a constitutional review. You can find the proposed new Constitution here (http://www.sis.pitt.edu/~scala/archive/revisedconstitution.doc), and the proposed outgoing Constitution here (http://www.sis.pitt.edu/~scala/governance.html).

First Meeting of the Semester!

SCALA's first general meeting of the 2008-2009 school year will take place on Monday September 8th at 11am. The location of said meeting is currently top secret, but all will be revealed in the coming days. Hint: it will be somewhere in the SIS building. Double hint: sustenance will be provided.

Okay, not really. Instead, come to the first of many loose little get-togethers on the Third Thursday of the month! Meet fellow SCALA members for drinks or food at Fuel and Fuddle in Oakland after your Thursday night class. You'll be paying for your own drinks, but the conversation's on us!

We'll be at the Fuel & Fuddle (http://www.fuelandfuddle.com) by 9pm this Thursday, March 20. That's 212 Oakland Avenue, just barely south of Forbes Avenue.
